12 EER or higher

*Your air conditioner must be installed and operational in 2011 to qualify for the 2011 tax year credit. Ask your tax preparer for the proper tax forms.
DEFINITIONS:
*SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio)
The higher the SEER rating, the more energy efficient the equipment is. A higher SEER can result in lower energy costs.
*EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio)
The higher the EER rating, the more energy efficient the equipment is. This can result in lower energy costs.
*SPLIT SYSTEM
A split system central air conditioner has 3 components:
an outdoor cabinet that contains the condenser and compressor-(condenser)
an indoor cabinet that contains the evaporator coil(sits on top of the furnace/airhandler)-(evap coil)
a furnace/air handler that sends the hot/cool air through the duct system.
*PACKAGE UNIT
A packaged central air conditioner has the condenser, evaporator coil, and compressor all located in one cabinet, which usually is placed on a roof. It has ductwork connected to it, both supply and return.This type of air conditioner also is used in most commercial buildings.
